Essential Math Courses
In-person Small Groups Claremont, CA
What Makes Our Courses Different
Our courses emphasize the fundamentals and instill a sense of genius and wonder in our students. Math is not at all supposed to be boring or require torturous drilling/memorizing. It is truly a creative and social subject, and as long as you understand the rules and know where they come from, every problem becomes an exciting challenge and every challenge leads to life-changing discoveries.
Our courses build a strong foundation and teach you how to truly think mathematically and intelligently, which naturally applies to all areas of life and all fields of work. We value elegance over brute force, invention over imitation, and satisfaction over gimmicks.
JungSoo (정수) means “essence” in Korean or “whole number”.

Registration and Pricing (Spring 2026)
Courses are 4 weeks long, 2 sessions/week. The next cycle starts on Monday, April 13. Another cycle of 4-week courses (starting the week of May 11) will be offered at a later date to close out the spring semester. We teach all levels of math up to 2nd year calculus.
If you are interested in registering your child for a course, please fill out the interest form linked above. Submitting the interest form does not mean you are committing to a purchase! If there seems to be enough demand for your child’s math level, we will send a follow-up form asking if you would like to register officially.
Each 4-week course (8 sessions in total) is $320 for high schoolers ($40/session) and $240 for middle schoolers and below ($30/session). You will only be charged after officially registering and the groups/scheduling are finalized. Each group will have a maximum of 5 students.
The location will be an ADU (accessory dwelling unit) in my Claremont property, with the occasional field trip! Address will be provided after registration.
Shane’s Past Experience
During my undergrad years at Swarthmore College, I majored in math and film studies and worked as a peer math tutor. I then worked as a private tutor for 3 years, starting out by working at companies such as The Princeton Review and Paper. I now teach independently after having received a Master of Arts in Education from Stanford University.

“Shane did a fabulous job working with my high school senior. She felt empowered and ready for her tests at school and surprised herself at how well she did. He was able to explain the concepts in ways that she understood. One time, her friend joined her, and he allowed them to go long. She learned so much from doing the class with a friend. What a great innovation for tutoring, and it was so effective. There is a big difference between working with someone who knows math and someone who has thought deeply about how students best learn math. Shane is in the latter category and that’s why his sessions make such a positive impact on the student’s learning.”
